Happy Birthday Virginia

Today is Virginia Woolf's Birthday.  The Errant Aesthete did a wonderful blog entry on the woman, and put it far nicer than I ever could, so go and read all about one of my favorite authors there.  The one thing that stood out the most from the article, was the wonderful quote on writing, that she included from Viriginia's "A Room of One's Own":

“So long as you write
what you wish to write,
that is all that matters;
and whether it matters
for ages
or only for hours,
nobody can say.

But to sacrifice
a hair of the head
of your vision,
a shade of its colour,
in deference
to some Headmaster
with a silver pot in his hand
or to some professor
with a measuring-rod up his sleeve,
is the most abject treachery.”

~Virginia Woolf
A Room of One’s Own, 1929

So true!
